Regular Season Round 12: Benfica B - Sangalhos 59-67

Date: January 18, 2015
Bottom-ranked Sangalhos managed to get a third victory. This time they won against sixth-ranked Benfica B in Lisboa 67-59. It looked good early as Benfica B took an 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Sangalhos had a 28-9 second period charge getting the lead and Benfica B was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 59-67. The winners were led by forward Luis Fonte (191-79) who scored that evening 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Diogo Simoes supported him with 14 points and 4 assists. Four Sangalhos players scored in double figures. Even 8 points and 8 rebounds by Serbian power forward Veljko Stankovic (199) did not help to save the game for Benfica B. Power forward Artur Castela (203-93) added 11 points and 5 rebounds. Benfica B's coach Goran Nogic rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Sangalhos (3-8) moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Atletico. Benfica B lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with six games lost. Sangalhos will play against higher ranked Terceira (#4) in Angra Heroismo in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Benfica B will play on the road against Vasco in Porto and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
