Regular Season Round 12: Fenerbahce - Mersin 85-60

Very expected game in Istanbul where 9th ranked Mersin (5-7) was crushed by third ranked Fenerbahce (9-3) 85-60 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Fenerbahce. Mersin managed to win fourth quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Fenerbahce dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Mersin's 24. They outrebounded Mersin 42-30 including 28 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American Angel McCoughtry (187-86, college: Louisville) who scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Senegalese-Spanish center Astou Ndour (198-94, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Fenerbahce's coach Jacek Winnicki felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Hungarian center Dora Horti (193-87, agency: 1x1 Sports) who recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and Bulgarian-American point guard Doneeka Hodges-Lewis (175-82, college: LSU, agency: LBM Management) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Fenerbahce maintains third position with 9-3 record having just two points less than leader Galatasaray, which they share with Istanbul Univ. Mersin lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Canik Bld. Fenerbahce will meet Edirne (#6) on the road in the next round. Mersin's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Mersin Adana ASKI.
