Very expected game in Barreiro where 12th ranked CD Torres N. (2-12) was rolled over by fifth ranked GDESSA (8-5) 90-67. The game was mostly controlled by GDESSA. CD Torres N. was better in fourth quarter 23-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded CD Torres N. 34-22 including 23 on the defensive glass. GDESSA players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American forward Ladondra Johnson (178, college: Young Harris) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Maianca Umabano (174-97) contributed with 17 points and 5 assists for the winners. Four GDESSA players scored in double figures. GDESSA's coach Nuno Manaia felt very confident using entire bench saving starting five for next games. American center Jade Barber (188-89, college: E.Kentucky) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) and her fellow American import guard Rachel Story (170-91, college: Ill.-Chicago) added 23 points in the effort for CD Torres N.GDESSA moved-up to fourth place. CD Torres N. lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. GDESSA will play against league's leader CAB Madeira in Funchal in the next round and it may be the game of the week. CD Torres N. will play against Benfica (#7) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
