Very expected game when 12th ranked Fireballs (2-13) lost on the road to fifth ranked Rotenburg/Scheessel (9-6) 77-61 on Saturday. The game without a history. Rotenburg/Scheessel led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 27-of-32 free shots (84.4 percent) during the game. Rotenburg/Scheessel forced 23 Fireballs turnovers and had a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Janae Young (183-87, college: Pacific) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Her fellow American import power forward Kierra Mallard (190-90, college: Texas Tech) accounted for 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Four Rotenburg/Scheessel players scored in double figures. Rotenburg/Scheessel's coach Christian Greve used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Candace Williams (184-88, college: New Hampshire) came up with 16 points and 7 rebounds and forward Carla Bellscheidt (183-94) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Fireballs in the defeat. Newly promoted Rotenburg/Scheessel maintains fifth place with 9-6 record. Fireballs at the other side, also newcomer in the league, stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Rotenburg/Scheessel will meet at home ChemCats Chemnitz (#9) in the next round. Fireballs will play against TV Saarlouis Royals and hope to secure a win.
