Regular Season Round 13: Oliveirense - CAB Madeira 69-78

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 4th placed Oliveirense (7-6) lost to fifth ranked CAB Madeira (7-5) in Oliveira 69-78 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Oliveirense won third quarter 24-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Oliveirense 35-24 including a 30-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Tommie Eddie (201-82, college: Mississippi) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 28 points and 15 rebounds. Guard Jose Correia (186-89) contributed with 20 points for the winners. Guard Joao Abreu (179-83) answered with 16 points and Augusto Sobrinho (188-85) added 14 points in the effort for Oliveirense. The victory was the third consecutive win for CAB Madeira. They moved-up to fourth place. Loser Oliveirense dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. CAB Madeira will face Galitos-Tley (#9) in Barreiro in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Oliveirense will play on the road against the league's second-placed Vitoria SC (#2) in Guimaraes and hope to win that game.
