Regular Season Round 14: Opladen - Lichterfelde 78-64

Rather predictable result in Leverkusen where third ranked SG BBZ Opladen (10-4) defeated 6th ranked Lichterfelde (7-7) 78-64 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by SG BBZ Opladen. Lichterfelde was better in fourth quarter 17-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. SG BBZ Opladen dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Lichterfelde's 34. Center Mareike Nettersheim (186) had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Nicole Nesbit (165-92, college: UCSB) chipped in 13 points during the contest. SG BBZ Opladen's coach Birgit Kunel used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Julia Sandow (182) responded with 12 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Kristin Greiner (169) scored 13 points. Four Lichterfelde players scored in double figures. SG BBZ Opladen moved-up to second place in North, which they share with Veilchen and Wolfenbuettel. Loser Lichterfelde keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. SG BBZ Opladen will face TG Neuss (#5) on the road in the next round. Lichterfelde will play against Zehlendorf and hope to win that game.
