There was no surprise when 7th ranked Weiterstadt (5-9) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked BasCats Heidelberg (10-4) 68-56 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by BasCats Heidelberg. Weiterstadt was better in third quarter 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Weiterstadt 36-25 including 16 on the offensive glass. American point guard Serena Benavente (167-85, college: St.Mary's, CA) scored 27 points and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import center Erica Carlson (193-88, college: Dixie St.) chipped in 6 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks during the contest. BasCats Heidelberg's coach Dennis Czygan used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Heather Karner (180-86, college: Youngstown St.) responded with 23 points and 4 assists and Elisabeth Beiter scored 7 points and 9 rebounds. BasCats Heidelberg have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position in South with 10-4 record. Weiterstadt lost fourth consecutive game.
