Regular Season Round 14: Veilchen - Braunschweig 87-60

Rather expected game in Goettingen where 7th ranked Braunschweig (7-7) was crushed by fourth ranked Veilchen (10-4) 87-60 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Veilchen. Braunschweig was better in fourth quarter 21-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Veilchen dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Braunschweig's 38. Veilchen forced 20 Braunschweig turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Braunschweig's players. Americans were the main players on the court. Power forward Nicole Jones (188-89, college: Drexel) had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Monique Smalls (168-91, college: Texas Tech) chipped in 18 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Veilchen's coach Ondrej Sykora felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Sade Jackson (177, college: Adelphi) responded with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals and center Brittany Obi-Tabot (185, college: Fairfield) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Veilchen have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place in North, which they share with Wolfenbuettel and Opladen. Loser Braunschweig dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. Veilchen will face league's leader Osnabruck on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Braunschweig will play against Hannover (#9) and hope to win that game.
