There was an upset when higher ranked Rotenburg/Scheessel (9-7) was defeated at home by ninth ranked ChemCats Chemnitz (5-11) 56-49 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 16-4 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. ChemCats Chemnitz dominated on the defensive end, holding Rotenburg/Scheessel to just 4 points in third quarter. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Mary Mihalyi (158-94) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 7 rebounds and international point guard Tina Menz (175-88) who added 9 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. At the losing side the former international guard Pia Mankertz (170-90) responded with 16 points and 8 rebounds and American power forward Kierra Mallard (190-90, college: Texas Tech) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Rotenburg/Scheessel's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. ChemCats Chemnitz maintains ninth position with 5-11 record. Newly promoted Rotenburg/Scheessel keeps the fifth place with seven games lost. ChemCats Chemnitz will face higher ranked SV Halle Lions (#6) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Rotenburg/Scheessel will play against TV Saarlouis Royals and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
