Regular Season Round 20: Nuernberg - Kirchheim 106-78

Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Nuernberg (14-6) outplayed 10th ranked Kirchheim Knights (9-11) in Nurnberg 106-78 on Saturday. The game without a history. Nuernberg led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Kirchheim Knights' 36. Nuernberg looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American-Dominican Antonio Pena (204-86, college: Villanova) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points and 8 rebounds. American guard Joshua Young (185-88, college: Drake) contributed with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. Five Nuernberg players scored in double figures. Nuernberg's coach Ralph Junge felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Bryan Smithson (183-85, college: NC-Asheville) replied with 22 points and 8 assists and his fellow American import Benjamin Beran (201-84, college: S.Dakota St.) added 19 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Kirchheim Knights. Nuernberg have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Giessen 46ers. Kirchheim Knights at the other side dropped to the ninth position with 11 games lost. Nuernberg will face ETB Wohnbau (#6) in Essen in the next round. Kirchheim Knights will play at home against Finke Baskets and hope to win that game.
