There was no surprise in Viernheim where 9th ranked TSV Amicitia (4-11) was defeated by fifth ranked Speyer / Schifferstadt (10-5) 64-54 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Speyer / Schifferstadt. TSV Amicitia was better in second period 17-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Speyer / Schifferstadt made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 TSV Amicitia turnovers. The best player for the winners was forward Uta Gelbke (177-86) who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Canadian forward Grace Fishbein (180-90) chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Canadian center Diane Schuetze (190-90) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and guard Jennifer Mocanu (172-90) added 16 points and 7 assists respectively. Speyer / Schifferstadt moved-up to fourth place in South, which they share with Mainz and Heidelberg. TSV Amicitia lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with 11 games lost. Speyer / Schifferstadt will face ASC Theresianum Mainz (#6) on the road in the next round. TSV Amicitia will play against Weiterstadt (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
