There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Friendsfactory Germering (5-10) beat at home 4th placed BasCats Heidelberg (10-5) 72-61 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 11 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 72-61. Strangely BasCats Heidelberg outrebounded Friendsfactory Germering 45-29 including a 22-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Magdalena von Geyr (180-84) who scored 27 points and 9 rebounds. The former international forward Jezabel Ohanian (170-77) chipped in 16 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Erica Carlson (193-88, college: Dixie St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import point guard Serena Benavente (167-85, college: St.Mary's, CA) added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Friendsfactory Germering moved-up to seventh place in South, which they share with Rhein MB II and Weiterstadt. Loser BasCats Heidelberg keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Friendsfactory Germering will face Rhein MB II (#7) in Langen in the next round. BasCats Heidelberg will play at home against Muenchen B. and hope to win that game.
