Regular Season Round 27: Zalgiris - Dzukija 83-73

Leader Zalgiris delivered the twenty third victory. This time they beat 6th ranked Dzukija (12-12) 83-73 in Kaunas. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris. Dzukija was better in fourth quarter 18-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Zalgiris brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. 25 personal fouls committed by Dzukija helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a quality performance for American James Anderson (198-89, college: Oklahoma St.) who led the winners and scored 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. International center Arturas Gudaitis (208-93) accounted for 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Five Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Polish center Adam Lapeta (217-87, agency: Alti Sport) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and the former international swingman Arturas Jomantas (200-85) added 18 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Dzukija in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the twenty second consecutive win for Zalgiris. Defending champion maintains first place with 23-1 record. Dzukija at the other side keeps the sixth position with 12 games lost. Zalgiris' next round opponent will be Siauliai (#7) at home which should be theoretically an easy game. Dzukija will play against Nevezis in Kedainiai and hope to win that game.
