Second Stage Round 7: Silute - Zalgiris II 79-74

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Zalgiris II (15-15) against fifth ranked Silute (11-21) on Friday night. Visiting Zalgiris II was defeated by Silute in a tough game in Silute 74-79. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Zalgiris II. Zalgiris II was ahead by 3 points at the halftime before a 25-9 third quarter run of Silute. 27 personal fouls committed by Zalgiris II helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for guard Evaldas Saulys (195-93) who led the winners and scored 26 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Edvinas Alunderis (202-92) accounted for 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. Four Silute players scored in double figures. Paulius Valinskas (190-95) came up with 18 points and swingman Martynas Varnas (196-97) added 15 points respectively for Zalgiris II in the defeat. Zalgiris II's coach Tomas Masiulis tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Silute maintains fifth place with 11-21 record. Zalgiris II at the other side dropped to the third position with 15 games lost. Silute's next round opponent will be again higher ranked Zalgiris II (#3) in Kaunas and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
