Second Stage Round 7: Zanavykas - Ezerunas-Karys 84-70

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Ezerunas-Karys (20-11) against seventh ranked Zanavykas (16-16) on Friday night. Visiting Ezerunas-Karys was defeated by Zanavykas in Sakiai 84-70. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Zanavykas. Ezerunas-Karys managed to win fourth quarter 18-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zanavykas had a 13-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for guard Paulius Beliavicius (194-88) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 6 assists. Power forward Sarunas Beniusis (206-93) helped adding 17 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Zanavykas' coach Edas Nickus used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side swingman Gintautas Matulis (195-86) responded with 16 points and 4 assists and the former international power forward Saulius Kuzminskas (211-82, college: California) scored 15 points. Four Ezerunas-Karys players scored in double figures. Zanavykas keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Palanga and Delikatesas. Ezerunas-Karys lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the second place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Suduva-Mantinga. Zanavykas will again meet Ezerunas-Karys (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Ezerunas-Karys will have a break next round.
