Regular Season Round 16: Hagen Phoenix - Neuss 58-68

Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Hagen Phoenix (3-13) lost at home to fifth ranked TG Neuss (10-6) 68-58 on Saturday. Hagen Phoenix was trailing by 7 points at halftime but managed to get 8-point lead after three quarters before a 24-6 charge of TG Neuss, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Hagen Phoenix to just 6 points in fourth quarter. TG Neuss made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. They also forced 24 Hagen Phoenix turnovers. Hagen Phoenix was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American guard Marquita Waller (180-88, college: VCU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Power forward Jana Heinrich (188-86, college: San Diego St.) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Elina Stahmeyer (180-91) replied with 20 points and 9 rebounds and swingman Kathrin Schlatt (174-91) added 14 points and 6 assists in the effort for Hagen Phoenix. TG Neuss have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position in North with 10-6 record. Hagen Phoenix lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 13 games lost. TG Neuss will face Zehlendorf (#12) in Berlin in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hagen Phoenix will play on the road against Braunschweig and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
