Second Stage Round 8: Ezerunas-Karys - Zanavykas 82-75

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Ezerunas-Karys (21-11) beat 7th ranked Zanavykas (16-17) in Moletai 82-75 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 25-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Ezerunas-Karys dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Zanavykas' 38. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Forward Evaldas Baniulis (201-87, college: S.Carolina) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Swingman Gintautas Matulis (195-86) contributed with 25 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) for the winners. Forward Marijus Uzupis (197-93) replied with 21 points and guard Paulius Beliavicius (194-88) added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Zanavykas. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Zanavykas' coach Edas Nickus tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Ezerunas-Karys moved-up to second place, which they share with Suduva-Mantinga. Loser Zanavykas dropped to the second position with 17 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
