Regular Season Round 11: Avantazh-Pol. - Avangard 72-73

The most interesting game of round 11 in the Higher League was only one-point a home defeat of 5th ranked Avantazh-Politekhnik (9-7) to third ranked Avangard (10-6) 73-72 in the game for the third place. The guests trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 1 point. Avangard outrebounded Avantazh-Politekhnik 41-27 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for the former international guard Maxim Balashov (190-80, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points. Forward Vladlen Berezhnyy (199-95) helped adding 9 points and 11 rebounds. Avangard's coach Andrei Podkovyrov used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The former international swingman Timur Arabadgi (193-81) responded with 22 points and 8 rebounds and forward Anton Rochnyak (206-91) scored 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks. Four Avantazh-Politekhnik players scored in double figures. Avangard maintains third place with 10-6 record having just three points less than leader Zolotoi Vek. Avantazh-Politekhnik at the other side dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. They share it with Khimik-2. Avangard are looking forward to face VolinBasket (#6) in Lutsk in the next round. Avantazh-Politekhnik will play at home against the league's second-placed Zaporozhye and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
