Second Stage Round 8: Zalgiris II - Silute 63-70

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Zalgiris II (15-16) against fifth ranked Silute (12-21) on Saturday night. Host Zalgiris II was defeated by Silute in a tough game in Kaunas 63-70. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-15. But Zalgiris II won second period 16-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Silute won last quarter 19-13. They made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. The winners were led by forward Edvinas Alunderis (202-92) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Eivydas Molosciakas (185-93) supported him with 17 points. Four Silute players scored in double figures. Even 13 points and 9 rebounds by power forward Laurynas Birutis (210-97) did not help to save the game for Zalgiris II. Swingman Martynas Varnas (196-97) added 12 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Zalgiris II's coach Tomas Masiulis rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Silute maintains fifth position with 12-21 record. Loser Zalgiris II keeps the third place with 16 games lost. Silute will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Zalgiris II's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kaunas to the arena JAZZ-Diremta.
