Rather predictable result in Samsun where ninth ranked Mersin (7-8) defeated 11th ranked Canik Bld (5-10) 76-63 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 15-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 76-63. Mersin dominated on the defensive end, holding Canik Bld to just 6 points in second quarter. They made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for American center Michelle Snow (196-80, college: Tennessee, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. Bulgarian-American point guard Doneeka Hodges-Lewis (175-82, college: LSU, agency: LBM Management) helped adding 11 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Mersin players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Kazakhstan-Belarusian forward Katerina Snytsina (188-85) with 15 points and 6 rebounds and American center Marcedes Marie Walker (191-86, college: Pittsburgh) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Mersin moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Canik Bld lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with ten games lost. Mersin will face league's second-placed Abdullah Gul in Kayseri in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Canik Bld will play on the road against Edirne (#8) and hope to win that game.
