Second Stage Round 9: Zalgiris II - Vilniaus 89-80

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Zalgiris II as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Zalgiris II defeated 6th ranked Vilniaus in Kaunas 89-80. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 89-80. Zalgiris II made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game, while Vilniaus only scored eleven points from the stripe. Zalgiris II had a 25-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by Vilniaus helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Paulius Valinskas (190-95) stepped up and scored 24 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and the former international guard Vidas Ginevicius (195-78, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 19 points. Zalgiris II's coach Tomas Masiulis used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American guard Jermaine Love-Roberts (188-89, college: Ill.-Springfield) with 26 points and forward Ignas Dauksys (197-93) scored 20 points. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Delikatesas. Newly promoted Vilniaus keeps the sixth place with 22 games lost. Vilniaus will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Zalgiris II will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Trakai on the road.
