Fifth-ranked Cherno More (9-7) gave a tough game to first ranked Lukoil Acad. (15-1) in Sofia on Saturday. Lukoil Acad. managed to secure only five-point victory 94-89. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 21-15 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 14-9. Lukoil Acad. made 25-of-31 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game. Cherno More was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard Dee Brown (185-84, college: Illinois) scored 34 points (!!!) to lead the charge for the winners and international Hristo Zahariev (199-90) chipped in 12 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Lukoil Acad.'s coach Jovica Arsic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American forward Lenny Daniel (203-87, college: CS Northridge) with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and guard Stanislav Tsonkov (192-91) scored 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Lukoil Acad. maintains first position with 15-1 record. Cherno More at the other side keeps the fifth place with seven games lost.
