Bottom-ranked Mersin managed to get a fourth victory, breaking the three-game losing streak. This time they outleveled fifteenth-ranked Afyon in Akdeniz 92-66. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 26-point difference suggests that Mersin is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Afyon. The game without a history. Mersin led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They also forced 19 Afyon turnovers and had a 32-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. Mersin players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The winners were led by American point guard Keddric Mays (183-84) who scored that evening 28 points, 5 assists and 4 steals and American-Lebanese swingman Antwain Barbour (196-82, college: Kentucky, agency: Three Eye Sports) supported him with 25 points and 7 rebounds. Four Mersin players scored in double figures. Even 23 points and 5 rebounds by the former international guard Firat Aydemir (187-80) did not help to save the game for Afyon. American guard Alex Gordon (184-85, college: Vanderbilt) added 16 points and 6 assists for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Mersin (4-16) moved-up to seventeenth place, which they share with Istanbul DSI. Newly promoted Afyon keeps the fifteenth position with 14 games lost. Mersin will play against higher ranked Socar Petkim (#9) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Afyon will play against Meliksah (#6) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
