Regular Season Round 17: Viernheim - Mainz 80-69

There was an upset in Viernheim where 4th placed ASC Theresianum Mainz (11-6) was defeated by tenth ranked TSV Amicitia (5-12) 80-69 on Saturday. ASC Theresianum Mainz was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 32-17 charge of TSV Amicitia, which allowed them to win the game. Guard Jennifer Mocanu (172-90) stepped up and scored 45 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!) for the winners and Canadian center Diane Schuetze (190-90) chipped in 17 points and 13 rebounds. Canadian guard Lauren Mortier (175-89) responded with 15 points and 7 rebounds and guard Maria Neufurth (173-88) scored 17 points. TSV Amicitia moved-up to ninth place in South, which they share with Rhein MB II. Loser ASC Theresianum Mainz dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. TSV Amicitia will face higher ranked Friendsfactory Germering (#8) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. ASC Theresianum Mainz will play against the league's leader Don Bosco Bamberg and will have a slim chance for a victory.
