Regular Season Round 16: GDESSA - Alges 71-60
Date: February 14, 2015
Not a big story in a game in Barreiro where 11th ranked Alges (3-13) were defeated by sixth ranked GDESSA (9-6) 71-60. The game was mostly controlled by GDESSA. Alges was better in fourth quarter 18-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. GDESSA forced 25 Alges turnovers. Quite impressive performance for point guard Carolina Bernardeco (163-97) who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals. American forward Megan Nipe (183-90, college: G.Washington) contributed with 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four GDESSA players scored in double figures. Power forward Chelsea Guimaraes (189-97) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds and international Dora Duarte (174-86) added 12 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Alges. Alges' coach Alberto Saraiva rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. GDESSA moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Uniao Sportiva. Alges lost tenth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with 13 games lost. GDESSA's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Lombos Quinta in Carcavelos and it may be quite challenging game. Alges will play on the road against CD Torres N. (#12) in Torres Novas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
