Regular Season Round 25: Zepter Vienna - Gussing 96-116

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Zepter Vienna (18-7) in Wien on Sunday night. Hosts were rolled over by third ranked Gussing Knights (17-8) 116-96. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Gussing Knights. Zepter Vienna managed to win fourth quarter 34-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gussing Knights dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Zepter Vienna's 44 and made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Gussing Knights especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. American forward Travis Taylor (203-90, college: Xavier) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds (on 16-of-20 shooting from the field) for the winners and Bulgarian forward Aleksandar Georgiev (203-90, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 22 points. Gussing Knights' coach Matthias Zollner used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international Jason Detrick (195-80, college: Oklahoma, agency: Three Eye Sports) responded with 27 points and the former international guard Stjepan Stazic (199-78) scored 19 points and 4 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Gussing Knights have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Gmunden. Zepter Vienna at the other side still keeps top position with seven games lost. Gussing Knights is looking forward to face Arkadia Lions (#8) in Traiskirchen in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Zepter Vienna will play at home against Dukes (#5) and is hoping to win this game.
