Sixth-ranked GDESSA (9-7) made lots of trouble for second ranked Lombos Quinta (16-1) in Barreiro on Sunday. The visitors from Carcavelos managed to secure only two-point victory 70-68. However their fans expected much easier game. GDESSA was trailing by 11 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 19-16 charge of Lombos Quinta, which allowed them to win the game. Lombos Quinta had a 29-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard D'lesha Lloyd (179-86, college: Clemson, agency: Regeneracom Sports) who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. The former international forward Sara Djassi (180-89, college: Cent.Florida) chipped in 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Ladondra Johnson (178, college: Young Harris) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and forward Maianca Umabano (174-97) added 23 points respectively for the hosts. Lombos Quinta have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 16-1 record behind leader CAB Madeira. GDESSA at the other side keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. Lombos Quinta are looking forward to face Olivais (#8) in Coimbra in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. GDESSA will play on the road against Uniao Sportiva in Ponta Delgada and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
