Regular Season Round 17: Lichterfelde - Veilchen 51-61

2.Bundesliga top team - Veilchen (13-4) managed to deliver another win on Sunday. This time they beat sixth ranked Lichterfelde (9-8) 61-51. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lichterfelde. The game was mostly controlled by Veilchen. Lichterfelde managed to win third quarter 14-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Lichterfelde to just 6 points in second quarter. The best player for the winners was American guard Monique Smalls (168-91, college: Texas Tech) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Her fellow American import power forward Nicole Jones (188-89, college: Drexel) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Veilchen's coach Ondrej Sykora used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Power forward Satou Sabally (189-98) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds and Lena Gohlisch (173-93) added 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Veilchen have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place in North with 13-4 record, which they share with Osnabruck. Loser Lichterfelde keeps the sixth position with eight games lost. Veilchen will meet at home SG BBZ Opladen (#4) in the next round. Lichterfelde will play against Hannover and hope to secure a win.
