Regular Season Round 24: Aistes-LSU - Utena 61-72

An interesting game for Utena (23-1) which played road game in Kaunas against 3rd ranked Aistes-LSU (14-9). First ranked Utena managed to get a 11-point victory 72-61. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Aistes-LSU. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 18-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 72-61. Utena dominated on the defensive end, holding Aistes-LSU to just 4 points in second quarter. They also forced 20 Aistes-LSU turnovers. Utena looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for international center Kristina Alminaite (205-90) who led her team to a victory with 13 points and 8 rebounds. American guard Hollie Mershon (178-90, college: Drexel, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 13 points and 5 assists for the winners. Utena's coach Alfredas Vainauskas used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Jolanta Marmiene (181-79) replied with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and international power forward Laura Svaryte (190-92) added 14 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Aistes-LSU. Utena have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 23-1 record. Aistes-LSU at the other side keeps the third place with nine games lost. Utena are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Ruta-Univ. (#8) in Siauliai in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Aistes-LSU will play at home against Jaunieji Talentai (#7) and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
