Regular Season Round 12: Avantazh-Pol. - Zaporozhye 90-70

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Zaporozhye (10-6) against fourth ranked Avantazh-Politekhnik (11-7) on Saturday night. Visiting Zaporozhye was crushed by Avantazh-Politekhnik in Kharkov 90-70. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Avantazh-Politekhnik. Zaporozhye was better in third quarter 29-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Avantazh-Politekhnik made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Zaporozhye was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was the former international swingman Timur Arabadgi (193-81) who scored 31 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Anton Mikhailov (197-91) chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Maksim Terianik (183-95) who recorded 23 points and forward Anton Buts (201-88) added 11 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Zaporozhye's coach tested ten players seeing no chance for a win. Avantazh-Politekhnik have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Avangard. Newly promoted Zaporozhye dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. Avantazh-Politekhnik will have a break next round. Zaporozhye will play on the road against VolinBasket (#6) in Lutsk and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
