Regular Season Round 20: Univ.Cluj - Gaz Metan 81-103

Bottom-ranked Univ.Cluj (0-19) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 103-81 loss to tenth ranked Gaz Metan (8-10) in Cluj on Saturday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Gaz Metan. Univ.Cluj managed to win fourth quarter 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gaz Metan looked well-organized offensively handing out 37 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Univ.Cluj's players. Worth to mention a great performance of Belarusian-Russian Aliaksandr Pustahvar (202-85, agency: Laszlo Vinko Group) who helped to win the game recording 33 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 8 assists and Serbian-Bosnian power forward Marko Djurkovic (206-87, agency: BeoExcell) who added 19 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Four Gaz Metan players scored in double figures. Gaz Metan's coach Ovidiu Teleaba felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Belarusian center Vladzimir Krysevich (209-91) responded with 22 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Brian Burrell (192-84, college: UTPA) scored 20 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Gaz Metan maintains tenth position with 8-10 record. Newly promoted Univ.Cluj still closes the standings. Gaz Metan will meet at home league's second-placed Ploiesti in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Univ.Cluj will play against Craiova (#11) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
