Regular Season Round 25: Galati - Alexandria 78-76

The most exciting game of round 25 in the Liga Nationala took place in Galati. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Alexandria (17-8) to eighth ranked Galati (14-11) 78-76 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Alexandria. Alexandria was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 22-15 charge of Galati, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Alexandria's 30. Galati forced 21 Alexandria turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. American center Chelsey Lee (193-89, college: Rutgers) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and her fellow American import guard Amber Jones (170-91, college: UAB) chipped in 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Galati players scored in double figures. At the losing side American point guard Shanita Arnold (165-89, college: Arizona, agency: Gamble Sports Management) responded with 24 points and 5 assists and the former international forward Anca Sipos (185-85) scored 15 points and 5 assists. Galati moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Brasov. Alexandria at the other side keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. Galati is looking forward to face Oradea (#12) in Oradea in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Alexandria will play at home against Brasov (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
