Regular Season Round 19: Freiburg - BG 89 Avides 73-76

The most exciting game of round 19 in the DBBL took place in Freiburg. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 7th ranked Eisvogel Freiburg (9-10) to sixth ranked Rotenburg/Scheessel (11-8) 76-73 in the game for the sixth place. The guests trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 39-31 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Rotenburg/Scheessel forced 19 Eisvogel Freiburg turnovers. 26 personal fouls committed by Eisvogel Freiburg helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for the former international guard Pia Mankertz (170-90) who led her team to a victory scoring 25 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American power forward Kierra Mallard (190-90, college: Texas Tech) helped adding 16 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side French forward Soana Lucet (185-87, college: Arizona, agency: LBM Management) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Adrienne Godbold (180-91, college: Illinois) scored 17 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Rotenburg/Scheessel maintains sixth place with 11-8 record. Eisvogel Freiburg at the other side keeps the seventh position with ten games lost. Rotenburg/Scheessel are looking forward to face league's second-placed Herner TC at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Eisvogel Freiburg will play against TV Saarlouis Royals (#3) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
