Regular Season Round 21: Rist Wedel - Bochum 79-58

Very important is a road loss of third ranked AstroStars (12-10) against fifth ranked SC Rist Wedel (13-9) on Sunday night. Visiting AstroStars were crushed by SC Rist Wedel in Wedel 79-58. It was a key game for the second position in Group North. SC Rist Wedel dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to AstroStars' 34. Americans were the main players on the court. Swingman Brandon Spearman (190-91, college: Hawaii) nailed 23 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and point guard Diante Watkins (174-90, college: Robert Morris) accounted for 13 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Spearman is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four SC Rist Wedel players scored in double figures. SC Rist Wedel's coach Michael Claxton felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ryon Howard (198-84, college: Sacred Heart) came up with 21 points and 9 rebounds and guard Jimmy Sherburne (191-91, college: Princeton) added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for AstroStars in the defeat. SC Rist Wedel moved-up to second place in Group North, which they share with Dresden. AstroStars at the other side dropped to the fifth position with ten games lost. SC Rist Wedel will play against league's leader Seawolves in Rostock in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. AstroStars will play on the road against USC Leipzig (#9) and hope to get back on the winning track.
