Regular Season Round 18: Veilchen - Opladen 76-57

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Veilchen as it allowed them to take a leadership position in North. Veilchen smashed 5th ranked SG BBZ Opladen in Goettingen 76-57. The game was mostly controlled by Veilchen. SG BBZ Opladen managed to win third quarter 21-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Veilchen forced 26 SG BBZ Opladen turnovers. The best player for the winners was American guard Monique Smalls (168-91, college: Texas Tech) who scored 27 points and 6 assists. The other American import power forward Nicole Jones (188-89, college: Drexel) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was center Mareike Nettersheim (186) who recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Nicole Nesbit (165-92, college: UCSB) added 20 points and 6 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Veilchen (14-4) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Osnabruck. SG BBZ Opladen at the other side keeps the fifth place with seven games lost. SG BBZ Opladen will play next round against Hannover trying to get back on the winning streak. Veilchen will try to continue on its current victory against twelfth ranked Zehlendorf in Berlin.
