Very predictable result when fourth ranked Svendborg (15-8) defeated at home 9th ranked Vaerlose (6-18) 85-77 on Thursday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-18. But Vaerlose won second period 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Svendborg won last quarter 22-15. The best player for the winners was Spanish forward Damian Jimenez (198-86) who scored 29 points. American point guard Johnell Smith (180-80, college: New Orleans) chipped in 9 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. Svendborg's coach Craig Pedersen used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Drew Maynard (200-89, college: Rochester, MI) who recorded a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Rob Woodson (180, college: Grand Valley St.) added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Four Vaerlose players scored in double figures. Svendborg have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Wolfpack. Vaerlose lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 18 games lost. Svendborg will meet Wolfpack (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day.
