Regular Season Round 28: Hoverla - Khimik 57-79

Undefeated leader Khimik delivered the twenty fifth consecutive victory on Thursday night. This time they crushed 9th ranked Hoverla (6-17) 79-57 in Frankivsk. The game was mostly controlled by Khimik. Hoverla managed to win third quarter 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Hoverla to just 4 points in first quarter. Khimik made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Khimik made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a quality performance of the former international center Igor Zaytsev (210-89) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 9 rebounds and American point guard Derek Needham (180-90, college: Fairfield) who added 15 points and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side guard Oleksandr Shostuha (193-84) responded with 13 points and 4 assists and the former international center Roman Gumeniuk (220-87) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Khimik (25-0) have an impressive 25-game winning streak. They maintain first position with a perfect record of 25 victories in a row. Hoverla lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 17 games lost. Khimik will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hoverla will play again against the league's leader Khimik (#1) and hope to secure a win.
