There was an upset in Istanbul where higher ranked Besiktas (10-10) was defeated by fifteenth ranked Tofas (7-13) 72-65 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Besiktas won third quarter 17-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Besiktas was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American point guard DaShaun Wood (185-85, college: Wright St.) who scored 13 points and 4 assists. Nigerian power forward Chinemelu Elonu (206-87, college: Texas A&M) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. Australian-Dutch forward Ryan Broekhoff (200-90, college: Valparaiso) produced 16 points and 7 rebounds and American center Hilton Armstrong (210-84, college: Connecticut) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Tofas moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with TED Kolejliler and Usak. Besiktas lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with ten games lost. Tofas will face higher ranked Turk Telekom (#9) in Ankara in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
