Bottom-ranked Fireballs managed to get a third victory, breaking the five-game losing streak on Saturday night. This time newly promoted Fireballs outleveled eleventh-ranked Oberhausen in Bad Aibling 72-50. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 22-point difference proves that Fireballs was well-prepared to that game. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Candace Williams (184-88, college: New Hampshire) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Carla Bellscheidt (183-94) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. The former international point guard Lea Mersch (170-87) produced 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and American Monique Reid (185-90, college: Louisville) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Newly promoted Fireballs maintains twelfth position with 3-17 record. Oberhausen lost eleventh consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 16 games lost. Fireballs are looking forward to face higher ranked SV Halle Lions (#5) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Oberhausen will play against Rotenburg/Scheessel (#6) and is hoping to win this game.
