Regular Season Round 22: Karlsruhe - Schwelm 87-78

There was no surprise when 7th ranked SG Schwelmer Baskets (10-11) were defeated on the road by fourth ranked BG Karlsruhe (12-9) 87-78 on Saturday. BG Karlsruhe dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to SG Schwelmer Baskets' 30 and made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. Rouven Roessler (198-80) fired 21 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Australian-British forward Paul Brotherson (198-89, college: Metro St.) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four BG Karlsruhe players scored in double figures. Canadian swingman Chris Johnson (196-88, college: St.Bonaventure) produced 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and center Julius Duecker (205-84) added 8 points and 13 rebounds respectively for lost side. BG Karlsruhe have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position in Group South with 12-9 record, which they share with Hanau. Loser SG Schwelmer Baskets keep the seventh place with 11 games lost. BG Karlsruhe will face higher ranked Dragons Rhoendorf (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. SG Schwelmer Baskets will play against Speyer (#11) and hope to win that game.
