Regular Season Round 21: Gaz Metan - Ploiesti 74-77

Tenth-ranked Gaz Metan (8-11) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Ploiesti (15-5) in Medias on Saturday. The visitors from Ploiesti managed to secure only three-point victory 77-74. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 29-19. But Gaz Metan won second period 23-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ploiesti dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Gaz Metan's 32. It was a good game for Serbian center Ivan Zigeranovic (212-84, agency: BeoExcell) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 7 rebounds. American swingman Jonte Flowers (196-85, college: Winona St.) contributed with 25 points and 4 assists for the winners. Serbian-Bosnian power forward Marko Djurkovic (206-87, agency: BeoExcell) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds and Lithuanian point guard Gediminas Navickas (180-84, agency: 011 Sports) added 16 points in the effort for Gaz Metan. Four Gaz Metan players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains second place with 15-5 record behind leader Steaua CSM. Gaz Metan at the other side keeps the tenth position with 11 games lost. Ploiesti are looking forward to face Craiova (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gaz Metan will play against Oradea and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
