Regular Season Round 18: Boa Viagem - CD Torres N. 60-66

The most important game in the last round took place in Angra Heroismo between third ranked Boa Viagem (11-7) and twelfth ranked CD Torres N. (4-14) on Saturday night. Boa Viagem was defeated by CD Torres N. in a tough game at home 60-66. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Boa Viagem. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 15-11. But Boa Viagem won second period 17-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when CD Torres N. made 10 blocks. It was a good game for American center Jade Barber (188-89, college: E.Kentucky) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 21 rebounds and 8 blocks. The other American import guard Rachel Story (170-91, college: Ill.-Chicago) contributed with 22 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Center Vitoria Pacheco (179-92) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds and American swingman Myneshia McKenzie (183, college: Rider) added 7 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for Boa Viagem. CD Torres N. moved-up to tenth place. Boa Viagem at the other side dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. They share it with AD Vagos. CD Torres N. are looking forward to face higher ranked Uniao Sportiva (#3) in Ponta Delgada in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Boa Viagem will play at home against GDESSA and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
