No shocking result in a game when ninth ranked Olivais (7-12) won against on the road bottom-ranked Alges (3-16) 68-61 on Sunday. Alges trailed by 18 points at halftime and as many as 22 after three quarters before a 21-6 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 61-68 at the end of the game. Olivais dominated on the defensive end, holding Alges to just 7 points in second quarter. They also forced 23 Alges turnovers. It was a great evening for the former international guard Joana Bernardeco (168-90) who led her team to a victory scoring 17 points and 5 assists. American swingman Elizabeth Beynnon (188, college: Marist, agency: Gamble Sports Management) helped adding 12 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side forward Carolina Goncalves (173-97) responded with 29 points and 6 rebounds and power forward Chelsea Guimaraes (189-97) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 rebounds. Alges' coach Alberto Saraiva rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Olivais moved-up to eighth place. Alges lost thirteenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Olivais will face higher ranked Boa Viagem (#4) in Angra Heroismo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Alges will play on the road against Benfica (#7) in Lisboa and hope to win that game.
