Regular Season Round 20: Barmer TV - Opladen 58-55

There was an upset in Wuppertal where higher ranked SG BBZ Opladen (12-8) was edged by ninth ranked Barmer TV (9-11) 58-55 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But SG BBZ Opladen won fourth quarter 16-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded SG BBZ Opladen 48-35 including 19 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Paige Sickmiller (175, college: Wayne St., MI) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds and guard Wiebke Bruns (178-90, college: Houston Baptist) who added 8 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Center Mareike Nettersheim (186) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Nicole Nesbit (165-92, college: UCSB) scored 14 points and 4 steals. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Barmer TV moved-up to seventh place in North, which they share with Hannover. Loser SG BBZ Opladen keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. Barmer TV will face Zehlendorf (#12) in Berlin in the next round where they are favorite. SG BBZ Opladen will play at home against Hagen Phoenix (#11) and hope to win that game.
