Regular Season Round 18: Lusitania - Illiabum 72-62

No shocking result in a game in Angra where seventh ranked Lusitania (9-9) defeated 11th ranked Illiabum (4-14) 72-62 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Lusitania. Illiabum was better in third quarter 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Lusitania had a 28-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. Illiabum was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American center Blake Poole (196-88, college: St.Martin's) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds. The other American import guard Cavel Witter (183-87, college: Creighton) chipped in 18 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). At the other side the best for losing team was Serbian swingman Bogdan Riznic (202-90) who recorded 14 points and 9 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and swingman Tiago Raimundo (194-90) added 15 points respectively. Illiabum's coach Ricardo Vasconcelos rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Lusitania moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Ovarense and Alges. Illiabum lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with 14 games lost. Lusitania will face higher ranked CAB Madeira (#4) in Funchal in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Illiabum will play at home against Sampaense (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
