Regular Season Round 27: Vechta - Giessen 46ers 79-72

The game between second ranked Giessen 46ers (19-8) and eleventh ranked SC Rasta Vechta (12-15) was the most important one in the last round on Friday night. Giessen 46ers were defeated by SC Rasta Vechta in a tough game in Vechta 72-79. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Giessen 46ers. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-18. But Giessen 46ers won second period 17-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for point guard Kevin Smit (183-91) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 4 assists. Center Oliver Mackeldanz (212-90) helped adding 15 points and 13 rebounds. The best for the losing side was forward Benjamin Lischka (204-89, agency: LUMANI 10.7) with 15 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized American guard T.J. DiLeo (190-90, college: Temple) scored 11 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. SC Rasta Vechta moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Kirchheim and Baunach. Giessen 46ers at the other side dropped to the third position with eight games lost. SC Rasta Vechta is looking forward to face higher ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Giessen 46ers will play against Science City Jena (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
