Everything went according to plan when thirteenth ranked Phoenix Hagen (10-16) defeated on the road bottom-ranked Crailsheim Merlins (5-21) 91-84 on Saturday. Crailsheim Merlins were trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 32-23 charge of Phoenix Hagen, which allowed them to win the game. Crailsheim Merlins were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American players dominated the game. Forward Larry Gordon (196-87, college: Cal Poly Pomona) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 7 rebounds. Point guard David Bell (187-81, agency: Three Eye Sports) contributed with 28 points for the winners. Swingman Sean Mosley (192-89, college: Maryland) replied with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and center Chris Otule (211-90, college: Marquette) added 18 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Crailsheim Merlins. Four Phoenix Hagen and five Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. Crailsheim Merlins' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Phoenix Hagen moved-up to twelfth place. Crailsheim Merlins at the other side stay dead last with 21 lost games. Phoenix Hagen will face higher ranked Deutsche Bank Skyliners (#7) in Frankfurt in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
