Regular Season Round 25: Gelisim - Mersin 80-68

There was no surprise in Izmir where 18th ranked Mersin (5-20) was defeated by ninth ranked Gelisim (14-11) 80-68. The game was mostly controlled by Gelisim. Mersin was better in fourth quarter 18-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 21-of-25 charity shots (84.0 percent) during the game. American point guard Derek Williams (185-85, college: SMU) nailed a double-double by scoring 23 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import center Marvin Jefferson (206-86, college: Idaho) accounted for 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. Four Gelisim players scored in double figures. American point guard Keddric Mays (183-84) came up with 23 points and 5 rebounds and American-Lebanese swingman Antwain Barbour (196-82, college: Kentucky, agency: Three Eye Sports) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Mersin in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gelisim moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Adanaspor and Socar Petkim. Mersin at the other side stay at the bottom position with 20 games lost. Gelisim's next round opponent will be higher ranked Meliksah (#5) in Kayseri and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mersin will play at home against Sakarya BSB (#3) and hope to win that game.
