Regular Season Round 21: Opladen - Hagen Phoenix 71-58

No shocking result in a game in Leverkusen where fifth ranked SG BBZ Opladen (13-8) defeated 11th ranked Hagen Phoenix (4-17) 71-58 on Sunday. The game without a history. SG BBZ Opladen led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Hagen Phoenix's 22. They outrebounded Hagen Phoenix 45-31 including a 33-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard Nicole Nesbit (165-92, college: UCSB) who scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. Center Mareike Nettersheim (186) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four SG BBZ Opladen players scored in double figures. SG BBZ Opladen's coach Birgit Kunel used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Leonie Schuetter (177-98) who recorded 18 points and 5 steals and swingman Elina Stahmeyer (180-91) added 7 points and 10 rebounds respectively. SG BBZ Opladen moved-up to fourth place in North, which they share with Neuss. Loser Hagen Phoenix keeps the eleventh position with 17 games lost. SG BBZ Opladen will face Braunschweig (#9) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hagen Phoenix will play against Zehlendorf and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
