Regular Season Round 24: Gaz Metan - Steaua CSM 65-78

There was no surprise in Medias where 9th ranked Gaz Metan (10-12) was defeated by second ranked Steaua CSM (17-5) 78-65. It looked good early as Gaz Metan took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Steaua CSM had a 21-9 second period charge getting the lead and Gaz Metan was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 65-78. Steaua CSM dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Gaz Metan's 32. Steaua CSM forced 19 Gaz Metan turnovers. The winners were led by the former international Titus Nicoara (202-88, agency: Interperformances) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) and American Bill Amis (206-87, college: Hawaii) supported him with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Steaua CSM players scored in double figures. Steaua CSM's coach Niksa Bavcevic used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 14 points, 20 rebounds and 6 assists by Serbian-Bosnian power forward Marko Djurkovic (206-87, agency: BeoExcell) did not help to save the game for Gaz Metan. Belarusian-Russian Aliaksandr Pustahvar (202-85, agency: Laszlo Vinko Group) added 16 points and 7 rebounds. Steaua CSM maintains second position with 17-5 record behind leader Ploiesti. Gaz Metan at the other side keeps the ninth place with 12 games lost. Steaua CSM's next round opponent will be Craiova (#10) at home and are hoping to win another game. Gaz Metan will play against Timba Timosoara in Timisoara and hope to win that game.
